KUALA LUMPUR, 7 August 2026 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has ordered a thorough and transparent investigation into the deaths of three police officers in Kampung Weston, Beaufort, Sabah, following a suspected electrocution incident.
The three policemen died along Jalan Weston on Thursday. Initial reports indicate that they were involved in harvesting coconuts when the incident occurred.
Investigation underway
One preliminary account reported that an iron pole being used during the activity may have come into contact with an overhead electrical line. However, authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths, and the exact cause has yet to be established.
Police have opened an investigation paper into the incident, while post-mortem examinations are being carried out to establish the cause of death.
Anwar has called for the investigation to be conducted thoroughly, transparently and promptly so that the circumstances surrounding the incident can be properly established.
The incident has also raised concerns about electrical safety, particularly when carrying out work or activities near overhead power lines.
