SINGAPORE, 16 August 2026 — Singapore’s hopes of reaching the ASEAN Championship final have been dealt a blow after the Lions suffered a 3–1 defeat to Thailand in the first leg of their semi-final at Jalan Besar Stadium on Saturday.
Despite strong support from the home crowd, Singapore struggled to contain Thailand, who took control of the match and secured a two-goal advantage heading into the second leg.
Singapore head coach Gavin Lee acknowledged that his team made mistakes but said the players would continue to fight despite the difficult position.
The Lions will now need a much stronger performance in the second leg in Bangkok if they are to overturn the deficit and reach the final.
The result means Singapore’s hopes of reaching their first ASEAN Championship final in 14 years are hanging by a thread.
The Mamak Corner will continue to follow Singapore’s ASEAN Championship campaign.
